Azulejos, originally white and blue ceramic tiles, were brought in by the Moors and adopted by the Portuguese when King Manuel I, visiting the Alhambra, was struck by the beauty of the Moorish decorations and ordered his palace in Portugal to be decorated the same way.
In Azul, an abstract tile placement game, you are a ceramic artist tasked with decorating the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora.
How to play
- Pick your tiles strategically to build a beautiful mosaic on your personal board.
- You score points based on where the tiles are placed and on specific patterns.
- Leftover tiles cost you points.
- The game ends after the round in which at least one player completes a horizontal line of 5 consecutive tiles. The player with the most points wins.
